It's the wee things that we forget, each age has it's special moments, The Coronation, The Moon Landing, Diana but each person has moments that for no particular reason remain in their memory. One such moment for me was on New Years Day back in 1977 when in the late morning of the 1st, after a excellent Hogmany party, six of my compatriots entered the Band Stand in Johnstone and, while playing a variety of invisible instruments, gave what I believe is a beautiful rendition of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. We couldn't have been that bad the PC who asked us to put the instruments away and retire from the music industry let us finish the piece and gave us a round of applause . It was a moment in history, which can never be repeated, and not everyone witnessed (thankfully). Taking our town as the thread that connects all these recollections, this section is dedicated to the experience and memories of the people of our community. They may seem trivial to others or some may have no real significance today but it's all part of the rich tapestry that has created our community. I love hearing about them, and whether it happened yesterday or 80 years ago let me know yours. |

We will build this section up over the years, but if you want an example of what we mean have a look our sister site in Bishopton (www.bishopton.org.uk/history/glimpses/glimpses.htm). I would prefer a photo of you then or now (or both!!) to accompany your 'ditty' but it's not essential (I'll take it if you wish). We place the information without re structuring what we're told, so if your a Historian you have to take it the way it was given :-) |
